When it comes to boat trailers, grease is the word. After all, these kinds of trailers are subject to extremely challenging conditions.
Besides racking up lots of road miles like other trailers, boat trailers also are partially submerged in water when you unload and load your boat. In addition, they are exposed to all the other elements trailers face, like sun, rain and snow as well as dust, debris and dirt.
That’s why grease is your trailer’s friend. It will help keep all those bad things out while helping your trailer do its job smoothly and reliably.
To ensure your trailer keeps rolling smoothly, whether you’re on the highway or launching or loading your boat, it’s smart to grease your trailer bearings regularly. Generally, you should add marine grease every 3,000 miles or every year, whichever comes first.
Before adding new grease, make sure to remove the old grease. While you’re at it, inspect your wheel bearings for signs of wear. Replace them if you see problems.
